Just east of Oro Valley is Catalina State Park. The pine-covered mountains were called La Iglesia, or the church, by the early Spaniards. This is due to their cathedral-like appearance.
Literally straight up from Oro Valley is Mount Lemmon. This peak in the Catalina Mountains is at 9,200 feet. Mount Lemmon is the most southern ski area in the United States.
